The Gay Bars Guidance in Singapore

$

The majority of Singapore’s gay nightlife is concentrated in the T in Chinatown, easily accessed by taxi or the Chinatown or Tanjong Pagar MRT stations. You may never know that homosexuality was technically illegal in Singapore by visiting any of Singapore’s gay bars or gay clubs. Amidst the hustle and bustle of Chinatown in Singapore, there are pockets of quieter areas that are somewhat removed from the maddening crowds in your typical party spots. Such places tend to be the preference for many who want a good night out surrounded by eateries, bars and even karaoke joints – and all within walking distance, if that’s your bag. You can find a plethora of entertainment nightspots in Singapore where the gays can lay their hat down and enjoy a night out without any concern.

Here, there are some very popular bars where the gays can enjoy a night out without any concern.

1. Tantric Bar

Tantric Bar_副本It is located in a beautiful heritage building with an open-air garden courtyard in front and a sophisticated lounge atmosphere inside done up in orange and red accents against velvety black. It is one of Singapore’s most popular gay bars, particularly on Friday and Saturday nights, when it is packed with revellers enjoying cocktails and double-shot housepours. In slow weekday nights, you can see people chilling on the day beds in the (oddly) green-lit courtyard, while on weekends the joint is jam-packed, standingroom only. The dance tracks and kick-ass Long Island Teas are guaranteed to keep you happy and buzzing all night. The staff in this Bar are cute and friendly, the courtyard has its own bar to keep the good times rolling outside as well as in. Crowd is gay, but gay-friendly straights are also welcome.

Mixed crowd also has some lesbians, there are all races party here, so it’s extra fun. The busiest time is on Friday and Saturday nights. Weekly theme nights include FLIRT Fridays, HandBag Nite and Tutti Frutti Nite. Wanchai is one nightlife hot place where the “World of Suzy Wong” image of Hong Kong still feels alive. Today, Various Wanchai bars and clubs sit in a backdrop of aging topless bars on the Lockhart Road bar strip. No matter how the chrome shines at the grand opening of a Wanchai nightclub there is always an undercurrent of sleaze. Neptune 2 Disco is one of the most famous Bar in Wan Chai which is established in 1993 and since then become the Landmark of Wan Chai.

Neptune 2 disco is located Jaffe Road, Wan Chai, just a few yards from the intersection with Luard Road and is one of Wan Chai’s few clubs that is open almost till dawn. It is quite easy to find its neon sign above the door and a narrow staircase leads down into the underground premises. This spacious disco has a similar crowd to Fenwicks but the venue is slightly less claustrophopic due to the higher ceilings. There’s a square bar in the middle of the club, a private-ish seating enclave in the back, a stage for a live band and a large dance floor. The drinks are reasonably priced, the staff members are friendly, the band is a lot of fun, and the female tourists from different Asian countries are flirty.

The club is populated by girls in tight skirts sporting dangerous cleavage and talking to the usual Wanchai suspects- older men packing Viagra, horny German tourists with big bellies, pilots, and groups of guys who are young, dumb and full of you know what. A fun night out in Hong Kong is not complete without a few drinks at Neptune. Visitors from around the world get together every night and enjoy each other’s company. Our friendly staff will make you feel at home. Our DJ and live band will play your favourite music (from current hit songs to the best of the 80s). All your entertainment needs will be met at Neptune.

This Bar is favored by expats and business travelers who are looking for a slightly seedier side of Hong Kong, you can drink here until around 5 a.m. depending on the amount of custom. Naturally, weekends will be the busiest times and you’ll struggle to find a place at the bar. Like most places here, friendly waitresses are on hand to bring your drinks if you can’t find an opening at the bar, although they can be a little pushy if you’re standing with a nearly empty glass. While this is a little seedy and drab and is a notorious haunt of prostitutes, this bare can be good fun place if you take it for what it is. You may find different languages spoken in this Bar such as Thai, Tagalog, Indonesian or Vietnamese.

But legendary that Neptune II has been shut down, it is said that because Liquor Licensing Board refusing to issue it a new licence. Staff at its sister bar – Neptune III said Neptune II was closed for renovation, but considering that it is the busiest time of the year for the city’s nightspots, this seemed unlikely. The Food and Environmental Hygiene Department later confirmed that Neptune II’s bar licence had not been renewed, but did not give a reason. The real reason for its closure is understood to be much less controversial, with an industry source revealing that its liquor licence was turned down because of overcrowding. But whether it is the reason or not, people do not know, just have a guess, but now, the bar is still called “the landmark of Wan Chai” and many Wan Chai regulars would agree.
